Written, produced and directed by Brian Helgeland, who has reunited the stars he worked with on A Knight's Tale (Heath Ledger, Mark Addy and Shannon Sossymon), this is the latest wannabe Exorcist. The Sin Eater imperils his soul by delivering a kind of super-absolution - he literally sucks the sins out of a person at the point of death. Addy tries to inject light relief into proceedings but he, too, is a lost soul, adrift in the limbo of Helgeland's wretched screenplay. Rotten.
