Even inner London, where space is a premium, has seen its distillery presence grow. On Wednesday Halewood Artisanal Spirits announced that production of its Whitley Neill Gin would move to its City of London Distillery on Bride Lane.
The UK's lockdown trend for at-home spirits drinking helped propel both drinks giant Diageo and high-end tonic maker Fever-Tree to better-than-expected results last month, with Fever-Tree saying in its full year trading update that 2020 saw at-home drinking sales up 20% on 2019.
Rémy Cointreau, the Paris-based maker of Rémy Martin cognac and Cointreau liqueur has said that “only the United Kingdom has really seen dynamic at-home consumption since the start of the pandemic".
Bars around the country have pivoted to launch at-home cocktail delivery kits since lockdowns were implemented in a bid for much-needed revenues.
Latest data from research commissioned by PATRÓN and conducted by OnePoll also suggests that Britons are buying bottles of spirits and attempting recreate the bar experience themselves. Pollsters found 75% of respondents said they needed a detailed recipe to be able to create a margarita at home, for example.
