Turkish delights for every budget

Istanbul luxury is trickling south in a new breed of very upmarket coastal lodgings, which, because the Turkish lira is so weak against the pound (around 1.9 million to £1), means they offer the greatest value in the Med.

Patara Prince Resort, Kalkan: For families who want comfort, on a hillside above the Bay of Kalkan, with three pools, four restaurants, two bars and a long shoreline. The 60 rooms include large suites with terraces, whirlpool baths and bay views. Boats to Kalkan daily. Savile Tours (020 7722 2986) has seven nights from £699 pp.

Hotel Mahal, Kalkan: Next to the Patara Prince is the much smaller (15-room) and more rustic Hotel Mahal, with four deluxe suites delivering great views, vast bathrooms, and two suites with their own cascading swimming pools. Simply Turkey (020 8541 2204) has seven nights from £415 pp.

Swiss Inn, Göcek: Yellow Med villa - a small, boutique affair - made up of 57 rooms in gardens of oleander and bougainvillea. Private beach on the bay of Göcek. Perfect for sailors and sunworshippers. Savile Tours (020 7722 2986) has seven nights from £869 pp.

Ada Hotel, Bodrum: Turkey's top hotel has just 14 rooms (six are suites) set on an olive-clad hillside. Ancient building techniques evoke a Med village, with pool; hammam - all marble; terrace restaurant doing simple food; and Ada Beach Club - all gold bikinis. Marmara, Bodrum: Sleek, Manhattan-meets-Med hilltop extravaganza: a split-level 100-room hotel built in 1999 and clearly Starck-inspired. Glitzy crowd - models, sports stars, Eurotrash - and a sweeping pool terrace for amazing sunsets. One complaint: you're not directly by the sea.
