The Voice UK Finals: Michelle John voted off as Into The Ark, Mo Adeniran and Jamie Miller prepare for the finale

Michelle John was voted off ITV talent show The Voice UK in the first of two finals this weekend.

The former Pop Idol vocal coach performed Prince's 'Purple Rain' and the Chaka Khan classic ‘Feel for You’ as a duet with her coach, US rapper will.i.am, but failed to gain as many votes as her fellow contestants.

Speaking after the results were announced, John said: "Thank you everybody, it’s been amazing and I'm just so proud of myself. I've overcome so many things to be here."

She went on, "I might not have won but I’m a winner."

Her fellow contestants praised her performance, with Mo Adeniran calling her "absolutely amazing" and Jamie Miller saying she "represents The Voice".

But she was up against stiff competition with each of the other acts performing powerful solos and duets with their mentors.

Adeniran wowed with Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ as a solo, and Labrinth’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ as a duet with his mentor, Jennifer Hudson. The US R&B singer also duetted with Miller, her other act, singing Naughty Boy's ‘Runnin’ after the 19-year old had impressed with his rendition of Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean'.

Welsh duo Into The Ark took on Alicia Keys' 'No-one' and later rocked alongside their mentor, Tom Jones, to Sam and Dave’s ‘Hold on I’m Coming’. Fourth judge Gavin Rossdale's last act was voted off in the semi-finals last week.
