PlayStation VR: release date and price confirmed for virtual reality gaming headset

PlayStation have announced when their virtual reality headset will be available to buy – as well as how much it’ll cost.

The headset, simply named PlayStation VR, or PS VR for short, will launch in October 2016, and is set to cost £349.

The headset will be compatible with virtual reality gaming experiences on the PlayStation 4 console, and will also feature a ‘Cinematic mode’ which will allow users to watch videos and play standard PS4 games on a “large virtual screen”.

More than 230 developers and publishers are currently working on PS VR titles, including EVE: Valkyrie, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and PlayStation VR WORLDS.

Most exciting for Star Wars fans is news that EA, DICE, and Lucasfilm are working on a VR gaming experience for Star Wars Battlefront – so prepare to travel to a galaxy far, far away from the comfort of your living room.

“To make sure that we are able to prepare and deliver enough units of PS VR and a wide variety of software titles to consumers worldwide, we have decided to launch PS VR in October 2016,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
