Strictly Come Dancing 2016: Danny Mac scores big with a 'swashbuckling' Paso Doble, while Ed Balls serves up 'complete lunacy' for Movie Week

Strictly headed over to Tinseltown this week, as the contestants looked to top the leaderboard with their movie-inspired moves.

Movie Week always brings a heap of extra style and flair to the Strictly Ballroom, and this year proved no exception, kicking off with a dazzling group number backed by the best of Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Danny Mac’s Zorro-themed Paso Doble kept him atop the leaderboard, with his chandelier-dangling antics scoring a mighty 36 on the golden paddles.

“For week three, this is amazing,” Darcey said, while Len praised his “swashbuckling” dance, and even Craig was impressed.

“Timing, shaping, the lines were all absolutely excellent - a virtuoso performance.”

Claudia Fragapane’s cheery Charleston also blew the judges away, with her Bugsy Malone routine - ending in a classic cream pie all over the judges - being described by Darcey as “absolutely outstanding.”

Meanwhile Ore Aduba’s Singing in the Rain dance brought a flood of tears to Elsetree, with gushing praise from the judges causing Ore to well up - as well as partner Jo and half the other contestants!

Bruno applauded his American Smooth, saying that “Gene Kelly himself would have been proud.”

Despite giving her a telling-off last week when she and partner Aljaz snuck a lift or two into their Cha-Cha, Len remains sweet on Daisy Lowe, saying that she “pulled out all the stops” tonight with a ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ quickstep, that also went down smoothly with the rest of the judges.

All eyes were on Anastacia for her Viennese Waltz, after an injury last week stopped her from performing in the dance-off, leading to the controversial departure of Melvin Odoom.

While it was high noon last sunday for Anastacia, this time her Twilight turn was well-received by the judges.

While both Bruno and Craig were concerned about her balance in the turns, Len was glad to see she was “feeling better and dancing better.”

Elsewhere, Judge Rinder’s Flintstones-inspired neanderthal number got the audience on their feet, while Naga Monchetty’s Mission Impossible Tango may have left her in the firing line, with the judges commenting that she “lost focus” and was let down by “sloppy and careless” footwork.
