Workforce gets Arc go-ahead

Derby winner Workforce will take his chance in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp after pleasing connections in a gallop at Newmarket this morning.

Sir Michael Stoute left the decision as late as possible as he was unhappy with the colt after he flopped in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, his only run since his Epsom heroics.

But after a four-and-a-half furlong piece of work on Newmarket's Long Hill grass gallop under big-race jockey Ryan Moore, Prince Khalid Abdullah's colt was finally given the green light.

The owner's racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe, said: "Workforce is going to run. It was just a nice blow-out. He feels in good form and he's ready."

With very soft ground anticipated, connections of Youmzain are increasingly confident that he can go one better in Europe's richest middle-distance race, where he has been a three-time runner-up.

The Mick Channon-trained son of Sinndar has not run since being well held by Harbinger in the Group One King George in July.
