Woodward attacks All Blacks

Clive Woodward today claimed England's rugby players would have been "locked up" in Wellington if they had committed the stamping offence which All Blacks lock Ali Williams perpetrated in Saturday's titanic Test match.

On his arrival in Australia, the England coach was still furious that Williams got off "scot free" for stamping on Josh Lewsey's head, an act of violence which led to the full-back requiring stitches in the wounds during the historic 15-13 victory.

Enraged that England had been victims of double standards, he said: "If it had been an England player, we'd still have been in Wellington now and probably all be locked up."

After a hearing cleared Williams yesterday, Woodward said he could not understand the decision and had asked the RFU to look into the matter while he concentrated on preparations for Saturday's Test match against the Wallabies in Melbourne.

Williams, 22, was charged by an independent citing commissioner after TV cameras appeared to clearly show him stamping on Lewsey's head. Referee Stuart Dickinson took no action against Williams on the field but the citing was made by Australian commissioner Michael Somes.

A judicial panel then ruled after viewing video replays that the evidence was inconclusive.

"He (Williams) has got off scot free which is just wrong in my opinion," said Woodward. "There is a feeling among the players that it is one rule for everyone else and one rule for the

English. We've got Danny Grewcock sitting at home who threw a few punches at Lawrence Dallaglio in a club game, which isn't going to hurt anybody.
