Wise's forward planning turned down by board

Dennis Wise today revealed he tried to add another striker to his Millwall squad during the transfer window.

Player-manager Wise claimed he was close to negotiating a loan deal for Rob Hulse from West Brom but the club prevented him from signing anyone.

He had already bought Barry Hayles and Scott Dobie this season and brought in Danny Dichio last term, so Hulse was allowed to go to Leeds.

But the decision could prove costly for Millwall, who were beaten 1-0 at home by Stoke on Saturday and have failed to score in their last three games.

Questions have been raised about the service to the strikers but Hulse has scored twice in two games since joining Leeds.

Millwall go to Cardiff tomorrow with their promotion hopes fading and speculation mounting about the future.
