William Buick can't believe his fortune

William Buick believes he has "the opportunity of a lifetime" after landing the No1 riding job with John Gosden.

Known in the weighing room as the 'baby-faced assassin', the 21-year-old has been tipped by many as a future champion jockey.

And now the quiet rising star says he must make the most of his chance, having replaced Jimmy Fortune as the Newmarket trainer's first jockey.

Currently riding in Dubai, Buick will partner the stable's contenders on World Cup night in Meydan on 27 March. Buick said: "It's a dream come true to ride for Mr Gosden. He has some great horses and I can't wait to get started. While I feel bad for Jimmy, it is the opportunity of a lifetime and it is up to me to make the most of it."

Buick is 25-1 with bookmakers Sky Bet to be champion jockey this season. The firm also make him 5-6 to ride over 100 winners and he is 9-2 to have a Classic success.
