Why three's a crowd in Europe

It's not only here, as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United battle it out, that football fans are being treated to a nailbiting finish to the title race. In Italy, Germany and Spain the championship races are set to go down to the final weekends of the season.

One point separates Inter Milan and Juventus in Italy's Serie A; one point splits Valencia and Real Madrid in Spain, and there are two points between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

In Italy, Ronaldo has made a storming comeback for Inter following his return from a knee injury. He scored two crucial goals against Brescia last week and was again on target on Sunday in the 2-2 draw with Chievo. With only two games left of the season, Inter take a one-point advantage into Sunday's home match with Piacenza but their final game of the season is away at Lazio - who need the points to be sure of qualifying for the Champions League.

Juventus, meanwhile, finish with games against lowly Brescia and Udinese. AS Roma, who are in third place on 64 points, have an outside chance of sneaking the title but have to play Chievo and Torino.

The Italians could even be set for the mother of all title finishes, because if two teams finish level on points, goal difference does not count and the teams involved will contest a two-legged play-off.

In Spain, Valencia moved a point clear of Real Madrid after squeezing out title rivals Deportivo La Coruna with a 1-0 win. And while all the pressure is on Real Madrid, and their money-laden squad to win the championship in the club's centenary season, Valencia coach Raphael Benitez is calmly defying expectations.
