During Chelsea's 2-1 triumph over Tottenham, Frank Lampard's strike clearly didn't cross the line but the goal was given and Salomon Kalou's winner appeared offside, while Manchester United's Vidic handled the ball in the penalty area during their defeat to Arsenal. Such incidents had Harry Redknapp calling for goal-line technology - a view that was shared by a certain 1966 World Cup winner.

"We have it [technology] in all the major sports - tennis, cricket, snooker," declared Sir Geoff Hurst. "I'm continually astounded that FIFA haven't introduced it."

The Bristol-born 21 year-old became the youngest finalist this century at the snooker World Championships.

After blasting his way through the qualification stage and the first round proper, he came from 15-14 behind to beat Ding Junhui 17-15 in a riveting Crucible semi-final, ending the contest with a 105 break.

John Higgins prevailed over the youngster in the final but his tournament performance will live long in the memory.

Quote of the weekend - Neil Warnock
Adel Taarabt and company can now start thinking about life in the top-flight after their QPR side saw off Watford 2-0 to clinch the Championship title. Yet celebration with inebriation in Neil Warnock's household was non-existent.

"We [his family] went home, got into our pyjamas and had a cheese and pickle sandwich!" revealed Rangers' manager on Five Live's Sportsweek. "[The sandwich] was on a white bun. To be honest, we did have a glass of champagne with it."

Warnock's fingers will be crossed this week, though, when results of the club's hearing over allegations that they breached rules on third-party ownership will be heard.

If found guilty Rangers may be docked as many as 15 points, meaning they would have to achieve promotion all over again via the play-offs.

Stat of the weekend - Dirk Kuyt's superb record against Newcastle
Kuyt has flown the front-line flag for Liverpool with prodigious consistency and his goal during the Reds' 3-1 win over Newcastle brought his name up in shining statistical lights.

Kuyt has now netted five goals in seven top-flight starts for Liverpool against the Magpies, and he's scored with all eight of the Premier League penalties he has taken.
