Whitgift keep it in the family

Whitgift have an enviable pedigree in the Under 15 Cup and it might have something to do with the same names cropping up successful teams!

A Canty and a Gunasekera have already helped to win the trophy at Twickenham in 2003. Now younger brothers Michael and Matthew are starring in a team which has already put down a marker in this season's competition.

After winning their first four games, including an impressive away victory at RGS High Wycombe, the Croydon school swept aside local rivals Wallington 50-0 in their second round tie. Canty scored a try in a man-of-the-match performace but the most impressive score came from winger Gunasekera, who displayed pace and power on his debut.

Whitgift await the winners of the Langley Park and Ravenswood game and will be strong favourites at home.

Millfield, who lost the final to Whitgift in 2003, are determined to lose their bridesmaids' tag this season and also scored 50 points away at Clevedon. Queen Elizabeth Hospital from Bristol, 34-5 winners over Ridings, should give them a stiffer test in the third round.
