Wetherby to face Jockey Club probe

Clerk of the course Christopher Tetley was today confident that Wetherby will not be found to be at fault in the latest doping case to hit racing.

The track is to be visited by Jockey Club investigators after Hachty Boy reportedly returned a positive test for the 'stopping' drug acetylpromazine following a novice chase there in May.

But whereas other cases have resulted in short-priced horses being beaten, the Henrietta Knight-trained Hachty Boy actually ran out an impressive winner.

Security in stabling areas nationwide has been significantly tightened in the light of previous doping cases and Tetley does not believe that the course's precautionary measures will be found wanting.

"The first I heard about this was when I read it in the paper today but I wouldn't think they will find anything wrong," he said.

"The security staff were definitely in place, the televisions were working and the stable manager stayed on the premises overnight. We took all the normal precautions but there is always a way if people want to do something."
