West Ham land Wolves' Shaun Newton

West Ham have completed the signing of Shaun Newton from Wolves for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who would have been out of contract in the summer, will cost an initial fee of £10,000, with an add-on payment £115,000 due if West Ham earn promotion to the Premiership.

"Shaun hasn't been in the first team in recent weeks. It's better for all parties if he can get a move and play somewhere else," said Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle.

Newton, who joined Wolves from Charlton in the summer of 2001, made 21 league starts this season.

West Ham manager Alan Pardew is also looking to sign central defender Andrew Davies on loan from Middlesbrough.

Davies recently rejected a permanent move to Queens Park Rangers but Pardew is hopeful a deal can be completed in time for him to make his debut at Reading tomorrow. If not, he will have to play either Hayden Mullins or Carl Fletcher alongside Malky Mackay.

Tomas Repka misses the game to begin a three-match suspension after his sending off in West Ham's defeat against Preston.

Pardew received a hostile reception when he went back to his former club last season but said today: "That was then. This match isn't about me, it's about two teams who both want to be in those play-off positions at end of the season."
