Wenger waits to learn his fate

Wenger's comments were provoked by Van Nistelrooy's shocking challenge on Ashley Cole, for which the United player received a three-match ban. But despite being charged within 24 hours of the game, the Arsenal boss has refused to back down, insisting he only spoke the truth and has nothing to apologise for.

If found guilty Wenger can expect a hefty fine - possibly around £ 20,000 - and a warning about his future conduct. There will be little chance of a touchline ban because Wenger made his comments away from the playing area and during a post-match interview.

Also awaiting an important decis ion today is Fredrik Ljungberg. The Arsenal midfielder has missed his side's last two matches after suffering migraines and saw a neurologist on Tuesday.

The neurologist did not feel any scans were necessary and advised Arsenal to give Ljungberg an extended rest and to allow him to return to training when he feels ready.

But Arsenal opted to seek a second opinion and Ljungberg was consulting another specialist today. He may well advise scans but it is felt these would be merely precautionary.

Although Ljungberg is almost certain to miss Sunday's televised Premiership game at Portsmouth, it is anticipated he will be fit for the busy holiday programme.
