Wenger to manage tsunami relief match

Football's all-star charity match to help victims of the Asian tsunami will be played on 15 February and Arsene Wenger will manage one of the sides, it was confirmed today.

Standard Sport revealed plans for the benefit game on Monday and FIFA and UEFA announced that the match will be played at Barcelona's Nou Camp.

Football's world and European governing bodies said that one side would be led by Ronaldinho, the FIFA World Player of the Year, on his home ground, and the other by Andriy Shevchenko, the European Footballer of the Year, with the other players involved to be named in due course.

Shevchenko's team will be jointly managed by Arsenal's Wenger and Juventus's Marcello Lippi, while Frank Rijkaard, Ronaldinho's club boss, and Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning coach, will take charge of the other.

"Just like the rest of the international community, the worldwide football family is determined to do everything possible to help the individuals and football associations that have been so severely affected by the terrible tsunami tragedy," said FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Earlier, Shevchenko was in less charitable mood when he has said that Tottenham were not a "big enough club" for his Ukraine strike partner Sergei Rebrov.
