Wenger: Title is key, not records

A win or a draw at Wolves tomorrow will mean they have gone 24 games without defeat - their best since 1991.

But Wenger played down the significance of the feat. "What would it mean?" he said. "It would mean that we're consistent. To put together a run like that means that you need to be a special team, but, apart from that, there is no special meaning. What is important above everything is to win the league."

Arsenal will be without Fredrik Ljungberg (bruised rib), Sylvain Wiltord (ankle), Jeremie Aliadiere (knee) and Nwankwo Kanu (international duty) for tomorrow's game. And there are doubts about Edu who has an ankle injury and new Spanish signing Jose Antonio Reyes who has a mouth infection.

The 20-year-old Reyes was set for a place on the bench but is still recovering from the illness that threatened to delay his full debut against Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

"He hardly slept on Monday night and couldn't eat at all on Tuesday," said Wenger. "But he was determined to play. That shows great character. It earned him a lot of respect from the other players."

Reyes put in even more miles this week, yesterday flying to Seville - the club he left for a deal that could be worth £16million in the next four-and-a-half years - for a 24-hour visit. He was due to return this morning and Wenger will assess his fitness before deciding whether to include him at Wolves.

A definite starter will be Thierry Henry who needs two goals to register his 100th in the Premiership.

"I don't worry about that because you know that he will get the goals at some stage," said Wenger, who called Henry an "unbelievable signing" for Arsenal. "He has been fantastic on and off the pitch. We are lucky here because we have so many players who love the club."

While Arsenal pursue glory, Wolves will be relying on their survival instincts as they battle to stay in the Premiership. Wenger is aware that Wolves beat Manchester United and held Liverpool to a draw recently - and one transfer window signing by Molineux manager Dave Jones has warned that the tussle tomorrow may not make for pleasant viewing.

Carl Cort, dubbed 'The Invisible Man' at Newcastle after a disrupted three-year career that brought only 23 appearances following a £4m move from Wimbledon, knows what is required from his days with the Crazy Gang.

"This team is ready for a dogfight," said Cort, who made his debut following his £1.5m switch from the North-East in the goalless draw at Portsmouth. "I have been in this situation a couple of times before at Wimbledon and I know what it is like. A lot of games become scrappy and the clubs at the top end of the table don't fancy that. I am not saying tomorrow isn't going to be extremely difficult, but we're capable of a win."

Cort was also grateful for the spirited defence of him by Sir Bobby Robson when he joined Wolves. "It is very difficult to get ahead of a strike force that had Alan Shearer, Craig Bellamy and Laurent Robert among others," he said. "Now I'm just grateful for the chance Wolves have given me."
