Wenger added: "He is one of the few goalkeepers who comes for crosses. Other players know he doesn't master his reactions well enough. They don't go for the ball - they play to provoke him. Keane fouled him at Tottenham but it wasn't given. Jens should not have reacted the way he did.
"He knows that as well as I do. He does not feel as if he is being protected but that's the way it is in this country and he has to accept that. He will be better next season. For me, he has had an outstanding season and even at Tottenham his goalkeeping was faultless. He doesn't get the credit he deserves."
Lehmann was forced to withdraw from the Germany squad who were beaten 5-1 in Romania this week because of a slight back problem but Wenger is confident he will be fit to face Birmingham at Highbury tomorrow.
His team are completely focused on remaining unbeaten for the rest of the season but Wenger hopes to give players like Jose Reyes, Kanu and Gael Clichy enough games for them to qualify
for a Championship medal. On Monday, Wenger will be supporting the Arsenal Ladies' team as they attempt to upstage their male counterparts by taking the first leg of the Double in the FA Women's Cup Final.
They face Charlton, who currently top the Ladies Premier League, although Arsenal, led by Faye White (pictured right with Patrick Vieira), can still overhaul them. Wenger said: "The Double would be a great achievement."
