Wenger is lifted by Shaaban comeback

Arsenal reserve goalkeeper Rami Shaaban made his comeback last night after 10 months out following a broken leg.

Shaaban, who made five first-team appearances last season, was beaten twice by Watford's Elliot Godfrey inside the opening 14 minutes in a 2-0 reserve defeat at Barnet.

The return of the Swedish-born Egyptian will be a boost for manager Arsene Wenger who signed the 28-year-old from Djurgardens in August 2002.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will be counting the cost of failure if they lose their Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev at Highbury tomorrow.

Failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition could cost £10million in lost revenue at a time where the club are looking to finance their £450m stadium at Ashburton Grove.

The Gunners may have to win all three of their remaining group games to go through to the last 16, yet their last success was almost 12 months ago when Thierry Henry scored a hat-trick in the Stadio Olimpico as Roma were defeated 3-1.
