Jonny Evans came through the tie after having a
pain-killing injection in his ankle before kick-off. The Northern Ireland defender was delighted to keep a clean sheet against Jose Mourinho's side. He added: "They didn't really have many chances but the kind of players they have are capable of making something out of nothing, so you've got to be fully concentrated all the time.

"We're very disappointed not to have scored an away goal, especially when you look at the chances we had in the first half when we got in behind them three or four times."

Evans, 21, said the fixture at the San Siro was particularly special and the biggest game of his career.

He added: "It's definitely the biggest game I've played in terms of importance.

"The atmosphere was amazing — there's something really special about Champions League games.
"Your hairs stand up on the back of your neck whenever you hear the music before the game and it was a great experience to play at a stadium like the San Siro."
