Watch out you Aussies, we're on a roll

Well, the England bowlers certainly managed to run through them on the final morning. With everyone doing his bit with great catching, fielding and accurate bowling, there was a feeling of an upset just around the corner. With Darren Gough getting the final wicket with a textbook inswinging yorker, it was job done for the bowlers, boots off, feet up, and over to the batters to knock the runs off.

Mike Atherton set the tone, as he has all tour. For me, he was the man of the series. Yet again he showed his versatility, sticking around and holding things together in the first innings and then, when needed, attacking the bowlers in the second.

However, with him gone on twenty-odd, there could have been a wobble, but another fantastic knock by Graham Thorpe and a partnership of 91 with Graeme Hick put us right on the road to victory. It was timely innings for Hick as he must have thought his time may be running out. Yet again he had a point to prove.

The Pakistanis tried their hardest to slow everything down so that they could bowl in virtual darkness.

Surely, something has to be done about this. Slow over rates and light fading fast was always going to be a problem and must be addressed. Steve Bucknor gave them an official warning but that was never going to change much. Actually, if anything, in the end the ploy worked against Pakistan as the fielders had no chance of seeing the ball when it was hit.

Still, the thought of Waqar hurtling in to you in that gloom would have been enough to cause even the greatest batsmen some concern, let alone a rather nervy No 11 like yours truly.

So hats off to the England boys in at the death. They showed fantastic courage and, of course, skill. So England scraped home, although I am sure the lads were always in control, for a thrilling and famous away win - something that has not been achieved in Karachi in 45 years. And they did it having lost a very important toss.

This series win ranks up there among the very best and can be put down to a complete team performance, all made possible by England staying in the game at all costs, even if it was a bit of slow process. Basically, big first innings totals all the way through kept us in contention and put us in good positions to capitalise on any Pakistan slip-ups and, indeed, tipped the balance right at the death.

To beat the West Indies was very special but, if we are honest, they weren't a great team. However, Pakistan were at full strength in their own backyard and we have gone over there, been equal with them from day one, until finally outdoing them right at the end. An awesome display.

I'm sure the boys will have a great trip home today, which will be fully deserved. Judging by Nasser's expression when the win was sealed, it could be a noisy and boisterous flight back to London. Then, in the New Year, it's watch out Sri Lanka, here we come!
