Vieri-to-Chelsea back on?

Internazionale were believed to be trying to sell Christian Vieri to Chelsea today.

Inter directors Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali, who oversaw Hernan Crespo's £16.8million transfer in the summer, were said to be at Stamford Bridge in talks. Although initially the two were there to discuss another matter, Inter and their star striker have fallen out dramatically in the last few days, and they have taken the opportunity to try and resurrect the Chelsea deal.

Claudio Ranieri wanted Vieri in the summer but it is understood Chelsea's interest has cooled since then and they would certainly not meet Inter's valuation of £21.5m.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-German claimed today Chelsea had offered £11.5m for Argentinian international Gabriel Heinze.

The defender has a blossoming reputation and interested Barcelona and Real Madrid last summer. He can play in the Champions League because PSG are not in Europe this season.

However, a PSG source said today: "Given the size of the offer and the fact that Gabriel and the coach are struggling to get along with each other, Chelsea's offer may suit all parties and a deal may be possible."

Heinze fell out with coach Vahid Halilhodzic because he continues to play the 25-year-old at left-back despite the fact he plays for Argentina in his preferred centreback position. This versatility will also appeal to Chelsea.

The club were dealt a blow with the news that Crespo may be out for another six weeks with the calf injury that recurred during last week's 1-0 defeat by Liverpool.
