Despite a woeful display, Beckham is adamant that he, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, of United, and Arsenal's Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell were fully focused on their international duties.
Beckham said: "We've got to get that theory out of the way before anyone says it. When you put on an England shirt, you are not even worried about what the next game is.
"You are worried about the one in hand and that's always been the case. Were the minds of the Manchester United and Arsenal players on the weekend? No, definitely not.
"We were fully focused on trying to beat Australia. It was important that was the case - and it was the case - although we are obviously disappointed with the result."
Both clubs had a host of players away this week and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will rest Gilberto Silva following his return last night from international duty with Brazil in China.
Giovanni van Bronkhorst, who was Holland's match-winner against Argentina, may come in for Cole and Francis Jeffers, after his goal-scoring exploits on his England debut, is set to get his chance.
Wenger said: "I haven't decided yet on my team but no matter which one I pick, it will be good enough to beat Manchester United. This will be a huge, exciting game. "
Ronaldo is reportedly keen to sign for Arsenal after falling out with Real Madrid coach Vicente Del Bosque.
The Brazilian is unhappy after Del Bosque questioned his commitment and, following a conversation with team-mate Steve McManaman, revealed his interest in moving to Highbury.
Ronaldo said: "Steve has told me many times that, in England, I would score goals for fun. Arsenal are one of the great, traditional English clubs so perhaps I should go and play for them."
