Heavy rain overnight forced groundstaff to use a helicopter to dry out the playing surface and they then replaced a large area of the outfield with drier turf from elsewhere in the Wanderers Ground, causing a two-hour delay to the start.
But Vaughan, who top-scored with 89 off 92 balls, was delighted with their efforts. "They put on a great show to get the field in a condition to play. It was a great effort," he said.
"That is probably as good a warm-up game as I have played in. At least this one was a tough game of cricket played in the right atmosphere."
