Unsettled Euell desperate for a chance to shine

Jason Euell hopes to make his first start since October when Charlton play Rochdale tomorrow. The club's £4.75million record signing could be recalled, as manager Alan Curbishley has an opportunity to rest players following the intensive series of games over Christmas.

Euell is unsettled after only being used as a substitute in the last two months and could be sold in the transfer window if a good offer comes in.

But the striker is desperate to prove his worth tomorrow at The Valley. He said: "I still do not know where I stand but I am getting my head down and working hard. I have been getting 20 minutes as a substitute rather than five recently but it can be hard to make an impact.

"I don't know if it would mean anything if I start in the Cup but I have got to go out there and remind people of what I can do."

Other players who would like the same opportunity include Graham Stuart, who could also leave this month, Paul Konchesky and Bryan Hughes. But competition for places could soon increase as Curbishley wants to make signings during the January transfer window.

Curbishley has been linked with a loan deal for Valencia striker Bernardo Corradi and Argentinian defender Sebastian Dominguez, who plays for Newell's Old Boys.
