United to question Fergie son

Manchester United will quiz Sir Alex Ferguson's football agent son Jason as part of their internal inquiry into the club's transfer activity.

United are reviewing all their recent player deals following pressure exerted by John Magnier and JP McManus, who own 25.49 per cent of the club.

Central to the investigation - headed by finance director Nick Humby - are suspicions over the role of football agents and it is believed up to 20, including Ferguson, will be asked to explain their conduct.

Magnier and McManus's company Cubic Expression cited 15 different transfers among the 99 questions they sent to United's board last week.

The earliest is understood to be Jaap Stam's move from PSV Eindhoven in July 1998, but several deals over the past year will also be scrutinised.

Although there is no suggestion that Jason Ferguson has done anything wrong, an associate of his sports agency, Elite, was paid £139,000 commission for his role in the signing of Tim Howard this summer. They are also understood to represent the French striker David Bellion, who joined from Sunderland last July.
