Umpires' catalogue of errors in Sri Lanka

The series between Sri Lanka and England has been marred by umpiring blunders.

Here is a list of the mistakes to date:

First Test in Galle

England's first innings

Alec Stewart given out lbw to a ball from Sanath Jayasuriya that pitched six to nine inches outside leg stump.
Umpire: Peter Manuel (Sri Lanka)
Graeme Hick caught behind off Chaminda Vaas although his bat hit the ground not the ball.

England's second innings

Nasser Hussain given out lbw stretching well forward to Muttiah Muralitharan.
Umpire: Manuel.
Mike Atherton adjudged caught behind off Vaas although ball bounced on its way to Kumar Sangakkara.
Umpire: A V Jayaprakash (India).
Marcus Trescothick given out caught behind when an attempted sweep came off his forearm.
Umpire: Jayaprakash.
Stewart survived when shot was caught after rebounding off fielder's shoulder. Umpire said ball hit fielder's helmet.

Craig White escaped clear bat-pad catch to silly-point.
Umpire: Jayaprakash.
White attempted to sweep the next ball and was given out lbw when delivery from Muralitharan hit him full on the front foot well outside off stump.

Robert Croft fell lbw to Jayasuriya despite getting a clear inside-edge off the bat.

Second Test in Kandy

Sri Lanka's first innings

Kumar Sangakkara given out 'caught' in the gulley when the ball came off his armguard.

England's first innings

Nasser Hussain given not out when ball from Muralitharan flew to silly-point off pad and bat.
Umpire: B C Cooray (Sri Lanka). Hussain given carbon copy reprieve when bat-pad catch was held by Mahela Jayawardene.
Umpire: Cooray.
Hick amazingly given not out after chipping a caught-and-bowled straight back to Muralitharan.
Umpire: Cooray.
Stewart survived clear bat-pad catch off Muralitharan.
Umpire: Cooray.
Stewart given out this time although batpad chance did not appear to be taken cleanly.

Sri Lanka's second innings

Jayasuriya given out, 'caught' by Graeme Thorpe, but ball clearly hit ground before flying to third slip.
