Tottenham transfer news: Spurs sign £4m Eric Dier from Sporting

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of defender Eric Dier.

The Cheltenham-born defender, who has played for England Under-21s, came up through the Sporting academy after moving to Portugal as a 10-year-old, and will complete a £4million move to White Hart Lane.

Dier came to England in 2011 when he had a loan spell with Everton but did not get a game with the first team. He returned to Portugal and played 15 times for Sporting last season.

At present, Tottenham have four options at centre-half — Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches and Michael Dawson, although the latter could be on his way out of the club this summer.

Spurs are said to also have their sights on another Sporting player, Miguel Lopes. The club are considering a loan move for the right-back.

Winger Iago Falque is set to join Genoa.
