Threat for Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has revealed for the first time the full extent of the intimidation he faced in the build-up to last season's European Cup final.

The Chelsea manager was told he was a "dead man" and was forced to hire security guards to protect him and his family after he received death threats over his decision to leave Porto.

In an interview with Portuguese television the Chelsea manager explained how the threats, made just before Porto's 3-0 victory over Monaco in May, were the reason for him not celebrating with his players after the game.

Mourinho said: "The telephone rang and on the other end a guy said to me, 'We're not going to do anything now but after the final, you're a dead man. As soon as you get back to Porto we're going to get you. You don't have a chance.'" Mourinho, 41, told Portuguese police about the threats before contacting a private security firm. He said he did not know who threatened him and was not sure whether they were related to the Champions League or to his decision to leave Porto.

Mourinho said shortly after the final: "I was worried. I wanted to be with my family, I wasn't in the mood for a party."
