Thomas is Bjorn again after three-year drought

Thomas Bjorn is seen as one of golf's most intense players, but today the London-based Dane revealed how a change in attitude helped him return to winning ways.

After ending a three-year victory drought by claiming the British Masters at the Forest of Arden in a tense play-off, Bjorn admitted: "I've learned a lot about myself in that time. I've learned that if I stick with it I'm good enough to do the right things."

Bjorn took a long time to recover from squandering a three-shot lead at the 2003 Open at Royal St George's to let American outsider Ben Curtis steal the title.

That calamity hit Bjorn so hard that he missed out on a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team last year.

But yesterday he saw off first Brian Davis and then David Howell as they replayed the par-three 18th hole to take the title. TED PURDY fired a final round of 65 to claim a one-stroke victory over fellow American Sean O'Hair to win the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas.

Vijay Singh holed in one at the 17th to finish in a tie for third, but just failed to take over as the world No1 from Tiger Woods.
