England are planning to give Jason Robinson rather more than a Twickenham encore against Scotland on Saturday - this time they intend giving him the ball as well.

In response to the sneers from some quarters that the Rugby League convert had been given a cheap cap, Clive Woodward keeps the former Wigan wing among his Six Nations 22 with a glowing reference for his work off the ball against Italy 11 days ago.

Without a solitary pass to show for his 35 minutes, the England manager could hardly view it any other way.

'I thought he had a great game despite barely touching the ball,' said Woodward.'Everything was new to him, but this week he knows what's going on and if he gets a chance, he will be a lot better prepared.

'He is putting massive pressure on the three other wings, Austin Healey, Dan Luger and Ben Cohen. Jason is there on merit.' With Luger hoping to be back at some stage in the coming month after a lengthy recovery from the neck injury suffered against Wales almost four weeks ago, Robinson is desperate for another chance to prove himself. 'I had no way of knowing whether that was going to be my only game in the Six Nations,' he said.'Thankfully, I have another shot at it. I am delighted to be on the bench but my ultimate goal has to be a regular place in the starting team.

'Now that I know the England set-up and the players, I feel more relaxed this week than I was before the last game.
