David Walker likes to think he is a model professional. Next week he gets the chance to prove it against a professional model. 'Kid Dynamite' Walker will hold a public training session in the West Plaza at Covent Garden, which will include a playful exchange of leather - gloves against hand pads - with what fight promoter Mick Hennessy promises will be a "top glamour star". The aim is to publicise Walker's challenge for the European light-middleweight championship, held by Roman Karmazin, at the Alexandra Palace on 4 October.

Boxer loses at ballot box

Winston McKenzie, of London's famous McKenzie boxing brothers, was out for the count in the recent Brent East parliamentary by-election. But Winston, standing as an independent, did poll the seventh highest number of votes out of 16 candidates.

A Kid who tames Audley

While Talk waits with some impatience for Audley Harrison to confirm whether he is to fight for the fifth time this year, there is a timely reminder tomorrow of how past champions kept themselves busy.

At 11.30am English Heritage will unveil a Blue Plaque at Nightingale House in Nightingale Lane, SW12, where former world welterweight champion Ted 'Kid' Lewis spent his latter years before passing away in 1970. In 1911 Lewis fought an incredible 58 times - and in the space of 15 days he once took part in three fights lasting a total of 37 rounds!

Roman's IX fights a year

Roman Greenberg, the Russian-born Israeli heavyweight prospect now based in the capital, is taking a lead from 'Kid' Lewis. Profiled in Standard Sport last week, Greenberg won his seventh fight of the year on Thursday and now aims to make it nine appearances in 2003 with two more bouts in November.

Tyson could Square up

Word reaches Talk from the Big Apple that two boxing sons of Brooklyn, Mike Tyson and Shannon Briggs, have discussed fighting for local bragging rights at Madison Square Garden.
