Terry: Don't buy any more players

John Terry has urged Claudio Ranieri to resist the temptation to bring new players to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea reportedly offered Spain international Michel Salgado a five-year contract worth £2.6million-a-year but the defender has now confirmed he is staying with Real Madrid.

Injuries to Marcel Desailly and William Gallas have left Ranieri short of defensive options in recent weeks but Terry believes there are enough players at the club.

He said: "I don't think we need any more defenders. William and Marcel have been injured but Robert (Huth) is there and he has been playing brilliantly.

"If the manager thinks he needs more players, then he'll go and get them and I'll have to work hard in training to fight for my place. I want to play in every game. I told the manager I wanted to play in the Carling Cup last week but he gave me the evening off."

Chelsea travel to Lazio today in confident mood ahead after Saturday's 1-0 win at Everton. A draw in the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow would keep them on course for the Champions League second stage, but Terry is confident they can win the game.
