Wimbledon queue rage as Andy Murray match is moved from Centre Court

Jack, who had the St Andrew’s Cross painted on his face, said: “I want to see Andy. He is the greatest. Last night was really uncomfortable.”

His father added: “We are obviously unhappy that we won’t be seeing Andy. But we thought he was always on Centre Court and it is a big surprise to find he is not going to be on there.

“I don’t understand why they haven’t put him on there. Having come all this way, this is a blow.”

Sally Hughes, 38, a marketing manager from Poole, said: “It is crushing that I won’t see Andy play at Wimbledon. I planned this day off weeks ago. But when you sleep on the grass, you just don’t hear everything and I didn’t realise he wasn’t on Centre Court until I had paid my £58 for my ticket.”

Avril Edmonds, 51, from Bedworth, added: “I got a ticket for Court One without realising Andy was going to be on there. I am so delighted, although I am a big Roger Federer fan and it would have been great to see him too.”

Brother and sister Don Smith and Eve Mason of Canvey Island, who were 1,009th in the queue of 9,000 tennis fans, were given the opportunity to purchase tickets for Court One and snapped them up.

“This is our first time at Wimbledon and we are really excited to be here. It was worth getting here at 7pm yesterday,” said Mr Smith, 54.

Figure skating coach Amber Sime-Blease, 22, of Dulwich was at the back of the queue, but said being on Murray Mound would make her day special: “I won’t get onto the court to see Andy, but it is great to be here and be part of this wonderful occasion.”

On the first nine days of the event the All England Club makes 1,500 tickets available for Centre Court and Courts One and Two.

A Wimbledon official said: “No player is guaranteed to play on any court, but the top seeds are always on the show courts. The order of play is announced the evening before the following day’s play and we always ask people to check the schedules.”
