The 2009 US Open champion is on course to face Rafael Nadal in the last 16 on Monday but Del Potro is happy just to be playing after missing much of the last 12 months with a wrist injury.
"I'm not thinking about Nadal, I am just thinking of having time on court," he said. "It's really difficult for me physically playing on grass. But this year I'm here to learn, to improve my serve and volley.
"After the French Open, I came here to practise a lot, in fact, every day. If I have a good result, it's better.
"But if I don't, it's a good moment to improve my game here and for me to be ready for the next years.
"After each match, every part of me hurts. But we have good physios, good massages and I will try to be in good shape. Simon is a really nice player. He has a lot of talent, so he will be difficult."
