Jamie Murray gives new partner some earache

Jamie Murray and Sergiy Stakhovsky came through their opening Wimbledon match but only after the Scot injured his new doubles partner by inadvertently hitting him flush on the ear with a serve.

Stakhovsky, who lost the final of the Junior US Open to Jamie's younger brother Andy in 2004, had to call for medical assistance during the pair's 6-3, 7-5 win over British pairing David Rice and Sean Thornley.

It was only the second time the two had played together but Murray insisted that though the Ukrainian was angry at first, the incident had been taken in good faith and Stakhovksy's ear would be fine.

"He was a bit annoyed, as I'm sure I would be," he said. "But it's funny, because then it almost put me off for a bit. I was consciously trying not to go anywhere near him.

"The doctor came on and said he probably bruised the cartilage and all that stuff, a bit of a cauliflower ear.

"I think he was a bit dazed for a little bit, but he seemed okay towards the end of the match. I don't know how good the serve was, but I got him pretty good. He's a good guy so he understands that these things can happen."
