Contrasting styles makes ladies' final so unusual

British No2 Heather Watson gives her view on tomorrow’s Wimbledon ladies’ final.

Their semi-final encounters

You’d have to say they were very contrasting. Obviously Marion Bartoli had a much easier passage through against Kirsten Flipkens. It didn’t look like she was ever challenged or felt overawed by the occasion.

I actually predicted that both Bartoli and Sabine Lisicki would come through their semi-finals but Lisicki’s was a much tougher match.

Even when it proved tough and she was down to Agnieszka Radwanska, I felt she would overcome her.

It was a bit like Andy Murray in his quarter-final against Fernando Verdasco. Even when he was two sets to love down, I still felt he’d come away with the win despite Verdasco playing some unbelievable tennis at times.

Their difference in style

Both of them are completely different players — in fact, they are total opposites in the way they perform. Lisicki smacks the ball so hard — she’s got massive shots and from all wings.

Obviously she’s really confident following her upset of hot favourite Serena Williams.

She wants to hit the ball at 100 miles an hour on the court with every shot. Bartoli, however, is so different to anyone else.

Her style is very unusual compared to anyone playing the game right now or even in the past.

I don’t think you can compare her to anyone else but her approach works so well for her. I’ve been very impressed by Bartoli and she’s clearly at the top of her game.
