Teddy's heart set on Spurs

Teddy Sheringham today hinted that he is ready to turn his back on other lucrative offers to stay at Tottenham.

The veteran Spurs skipper remains hopeful he will be offered a new deal when his current one expires at the end of the season even though the club will not qualify for Europe after the loss to Manchester United.

The 37-year-old striker has already been linked with moves to Sporting Lisbon, Millwall and Dubai, but insists that staying at Spurs remains his top priority.

That will largely depend on whether he is willing to take a big cut in his £42,000-a-week wages. But Sheringham said: "We won't be talking until the end of the campaign and that's not a problem. I will be taking it from there. I've thoroughly enjoyed playing here and my first choice would be to stay."

Sheringham also told the club's fans to not to write off the season as a failure.

He added: "Gus Poyet brought it to my attention that we've already got the same points as we finished with last season. So when people are saying it has not been as good, they don't appreciate the full facts.

"We realise we haven't played as well as we did at times last year, we've had to grind out results.

"It does feel like it's been a hard-working year which is frustrating because we are all striving to play the Tottenham way."
