David Pipe won this race two years ago with Tamarinbleu (2.25pm) - the fixture was washed out last year - and the nine-year-old is just 3lb higher.
This Grade 1 soft-ground specialist was only just beaten by yesterday's Peterborough Chase winner Deep Purple in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby last month and looks a solid bet to thwart the Nicholls trio.
With a maximum field of 17 runners, there is the propensity for trouble yet Tamarinbleu is a front runner who can stay out of harm's way and if he gets into a rhythm, he is sure to make it a terrific test of stamina under top-class jockey Tom Scudamore.
Northern trainer Nicky Richards is unusually bullish over the chance of Skippers Brig, who carries just 10st 11lb and who looks a solid each-way bet at around 16-1.
After making it seven wins from 13 career starts on his latest outing at Ayr last week, Richards thinks Skippers Brig "looks made for the job". The trainer said: "He ran a smashing race first time at Bangor and just tired turning in. He seems in good form."
