Sven's 'got it wrong' on Cole

For many, Andy Cole's announcement that he is retiring from international football is confirmation of the obvious.

Overlooked by Sven Goran Eriksson, Cole did at least score two second-half goals, leaving Graeme Souness to question the England manager's wisdom.

The Blackburn boss said: 'For the life of me I can't understand why he's not on the plane to Korea and Japan, but I think he's known deep down all along.'

Cole said simply: 'Things haven't gone my way. I've made my decision and I'll stick to it.'
