Surrey are shocked by Ireland

Ireland recorded a famous win over Surrey in the C&G Trophy when they cruised to victory with 10 balls to spare at Clontarf.

The five-wicket triumph sets up a home third-round tie against either Northamptonshire or Cambridgeshire and ranks among the greatest achievements in Irish cricket history.

They once famously bowled out Clive Lloyd's West Indies tourists for 25, while last season they beat Zimbabwe by 10 wickets at Stormont. But claiming the scalp of the leading English county over the last five years will eclipse even that.

The home side were always on course for the win after captain Jason Molins (58) and Sydney-born opener Jeremy Bray (52) put on a century stand for the first wicket.

Molins was the first to go when he was bowled by Azhar Mahmood but after Andre Botha (17) was adjudged lbw to Ian Salisbury, Gerald Dros kept the scoreboard ticking over with 45 from 53 balls. He eventually fell to Martin Bicknell with 41 runs still required but County Down's Andrew White and Kyle McCallan steered them home.

Middlesex had no such trouble in seeing off Wales Minor Counties by 174 runs at Lamphey. Chasing an unlikely target of 278 for victory, the home side made a reasonable start with opener Andrew Jones scoring 42 before Melvyn Betts struck, taking four for 15 from seven overs as the Welsh side were bowled out for 103.
