Super fly Ali in shock win

Najah Ali has ensured his appearance in the Olympic boxing tournament is not a mere token one by winning his opening bout.

The young Iraqi received a special welcome here in recognition of the efforts he had made to train in his war-torn country. But few expected him to last beyond the opening stage of the light-flyweight division.

Ali, coached by former World Championship contender Maurice "Termite" Watkins of the United States, sprang a surprise, however, by outclassing Hyok Ju Kwak of Korea to earn a 27-7 decision.
