Sulamani is withdrawn from Arc

Sulamani is out of Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but punters who rushed to lay Grey Swallow at massive prices on Betfair today may have made a very costly error of judgment.

Godolphin confirmed the news that Sulamani will miss the Longchamp showpiece this morning and that Frankie Dettori will now be aboard Mamool instead.

Spokesman Simon Crisford said: "Unfortunately, we have run out of time with Sulamani and he will not run in the Arc. We are now looking at the Champion Stakes at Newmarket or the Canadian International at Woodbine." The absence of the Saeed bin Suroortrained Sulamani from the Arc erased one question mark over the make-up of Sunday's field, but several others remain. Not least of them relates to Dermot Weld's Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow, as short as 5-1 with Ladbrokes yet laid to lose at well over 50-1 on Betfair when his name failed to appear at this morning's forfeit stage.

However, the layers possibly failed to realise that Grey Swallow has never been among the Arc entries. Connections always planned to supplement him at the 72-hour stage and insiders in Ireland today indicated that remains their intention.

Elswhere, Newmarket racegoers could see a showdown between two of the best fillies in Europe after Damson and Soar appeared among a field of seven 48-hour entries for Thursday's Skybet Cheveley Park Stakes.

James Fanshawe's impressive Lowther Stakes winner Soar was another to take a walk in the Betfair market after connections reported that she scoped badly over the weekend.
