Street Cry leads Godolphin Cup bid

Godolphin's best chance of following up Daylami's famous Breeders' Cup Turf success of last November hails from their American juvenile academy rather than among their British-based taskforce, according to racing manager Simon Crisford.

Street Cry, trained by Eoin Harty in California, was identified by Crisford ahead of Godolphin's better-known recruits - triple Group One hero Mutafaweq, King George runner-up Fantastic Light, Jacques le Marois winner Muthathir and Dewhurst second Noverre - as carrying their main hopes in Saturday week's Kentucky series.

The two-year-old colt has raced four times, winning once at Del Mar but impressing more as he has stepped up in trip. Street Cry has twice finished a close second to the Bob Baffert-trained Flame Thrower, clear of their field, but Godolphin is confident of reversing that form over the mile and half-furlong trip of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

"Street Cry is a top operator," said Crisford. "On paper, he has at least as good a chance as any of our Breeders' Cup runners and I think he's our best shot at victory. He's top of Eoin Harty's string of 30 - a very strong individual with plenty of ability. There's plenty of stamina in his pedigree so this slightly longer trip is better for him."

Harty is Godolphin's US version of David Loder, running a twoyear-old camp to feed Saeed bin Suroor's international squad of older horses. While Harty's numbers will be doubled with a new batch of yearlings in Dubai this winter, Street Cry joins Suroor with the UAE Derby and then Kentucky's version his 2001 aims.

"If he runs well in the UAE Derby, Kentucky is on the cards," confirmed Crisford. "The Kentucky Derby is not so much of a factor in us running Noverre in the Juvenile as well, but it will give us a good guide to America's best twoyear-olds. Noverre is a three-parts brother to Arazi, so there's every reason to believe he'll act on dirt."
