There has been a sense of injustice gnawing away at St Peter's, Gloucester since they were knocked out two seasons ago by a very late try which allowed RGS High Wycombe to go all the way to Twickenham.

St Peter's also fell at the semi-final stage last season against QEGS, Wakefield - another game they believed they should have won.

But it all came right in the sixth round at Wycombe on Wednesday where, courtesy of a superb team performance, they won 26-7 and inflicted the worst defeat of the season on the highly rated Bucks team.

'Quite simply, they wanted it more than us and were better than us,' said RGS coach Colin Tattersall.

St Peter's had to recover from full back Peter Glynn skewing an early penalty and RGS taking the lead during their best spell.

Concerted pressure on the St Peter's line allowed Ed Garrow to set up full back John Hammond from a ruck and he crashed through to the line from 10 metres.

But that was the last time RGS were to make a telling breakthrough in what became an almighty first half scrap, which ended spectacularly in two decisive St Peter's tries.

First, England wing Marcel Garvey was held up on the left but St Peter's swung the ball left and created space for LawrenceHinckley to score. Then, RGS full back Hammond failed to take a high, hanging kick and from the scrum, St Peter's struck again, John Paul Goatley sending nippy centre Joe Pointon on an arcing run to behind the posts.

Glynn converted and from 7-0 down, St Peter's were 12-7 up with no time for RGS to respond.

The home side never really recovered and with ten minutes left, the ever dangerous Garvey settled it. RGS were making their big push through the forwards but the winger collected a through kick, spotted the midfield gap and was gone. Glynn converted and it was left to St Peter's reserve wingerRyan Bartlett to twist the knife by picking up a loose ball to score an opportunist fourth try.

St Peter's head for Hornchurch in the quarter-finals to play Campion when the boot will be on the other foot. Campion looked just as impressive winning at Whitgift and have bitter memories of last season when St Peter's trounced them on their own ground at the quarter-final stage.
