Spurs warning over fund

Daniel Levy today warned a group of rebel shareholders that if they block Tottenham's proposed £15million share scheme it will jeopardise the signing of any new players as well as the planned appointment of a new manager.

The Spurs chairman faces a crucial vote tomorrow over the scheme, which is designed to give the club a major cash injection.

The club have already pledged most of that money for spending on new players in the January and summer transfer windows.

But a group of rebels believed to include Howard Shore - who dramatically resigned last year after a bust-up with Levy - are threatening to block the deal because they believe it penalises small shareholders and would hand majority control of the club to the largest shareholder, Enic, "on the cheap".

Levy vehemently denies this is the purpose of the scheme and said: "If this fundraising does not go through it throws doubt on whether there will be any activity from us in the January window and without doubt it will have an impact on the quality of manager we have in mind.

"The sum of £15m in today's transfer market is a lot of money. The people voting against this are voting against the future prosperity of the club, which we are trying to move forward."
