Spurs Trust demand answers

The Tottenham Trust, the officially recognised link between the fans and board, today turned on chairman Daniel Levy over the role of David Pleat and the club's failure to appoint a new manager.

The organisation has broken a confidentiality pact to voice their anger at the way Tottenham's season has gone. They insist the continuing uncertainty over the identity of a permanent successor to Glenn Hoddle, who was sacked after just six games, is damaging the club.

The Trust also criticise the team's performances under Pleat and ask whether the chairman still gives his full backing to the acting manager, who was barracked by supporters during the draw with Manchester City on Monday.

In a letter to Levy, Trust spokesman Daniel Wynne wrote: "There are many issues about the forward direction of the club and how it affects supporters. However, the most pressing remains the management of the team. We seek urgent answers from you as chairman to the following questions: In February, David Pleat said the new manager was "done and dusted"; he is now quoted as saying he is "scouring Europe" for the new man. Mr Pleat's statements are contradictory and we urge you to be open with supporters about whether a firm appointment has been secured and, if not, when it is realistically envisaged.

"Meanwhile, the media continues to speculate that prospective candidates are either reluctant to commit or reluctant to work alongside Mr Pleat. At the AGM in December you said you were "100 per cent behind David Pleat". Are you therefore only prepared to hire a manager who will work with Mr Pleat as director of football?

"We have asked that the season ticket deadline be extended until the new appointment is announced.

"Shortly before dismissing Glenn Hoddle you told us that "everything else at the club is secondary to getting the product right on the pitch". We have now completed almost a whole season without a manager and the product has certainly not been right. We also sought assurances about the managerial situation and we strongly feel the continued uncertainty is damaging.
