"The past fortnight has been one of mixed emotions for us all.
"The residual and on-going respect we have for Glenn as a significant player in the history of the club was combined with the realisation we could not continue with the first team under his management.
"As I said at the time, our decision was not taken lightly or quickly - I was determined to give Glenn every chance of success.
"However, the poor start to this season, coupled with the disappointing results from the second half of last season and the lack of any real signs of progress and team building, all played a part in our assessment.
"There has been media coverage about likely successors, with comment from many sources, including agents and senior management at other clubs. All this serves to produce is unnecessary and unhelpful speculation. This is no doubt set to continue and I would ask you all to be circumspect.
"It is not ideal having to change managers mid-season and as a club we are extremely fortunate to have someone of David Pleat's abilities to step in and seamlessly take over as caretaker manager.
"David is highly experienced and has a great love for our club. With the first team in David's capable hands, the process of appointing a new manager has begun.
"It will, however, be thorough and we shall take the time necessary to make the best choice, in the longterm interest of our club."
