Swimmers Penny Oleksiak and Simone Manuel both won Olympic gold medals in the same race after the women’s 100m freestyle ended in a dead-heat.
The pair reached the finish with identical times of 52.70sec in the third dead heat for gold in the Olympic swimming pool.
Sixteen-year-old Oleksiak, from Canada, made history by becoming the first individual Olympic champion in any sport born since the year 2000.
She shared top spot on the podium with Manuel, who became the first African-American swimmer to be crowned Olympic champion.

“It means a lot to me, especially what’s going on in the world today and some of the issues with police brutality,” Manuel said.
“This win helps bring hope and change to some of the issues that are going on in the world.
“I went in there and swam as fast as I could. My colour just comes with the territory.
“This medal is not just for me, it’s for some of the African-Americans who have been before me and been inspirations.”
